Register for texting (A2P 10DLC)

US carriers require every business to register before sending texts. Here is what that registration needs, how long it takes, and the opt-in page and answers we prepare for you.

How long it takes

10 minutes to complete, a few days for carrier approval

What you'll need

  • Your EIN, or your name and address if you're a sole proprietor
  • Your business name, industry, and address
  • Your private answers link from your first-week Ringvance email (or ask us for it)
  • A payment method on file

What A2P 10DLC is, in plain terms

US mobile carriers require every business that sends texts through a platform like Ringvance to register first. This proves to the carriers that a real business is sending the texts, not a spammer. It's a one-time setup per business, not something you redo for every text.

Steps

  1. Open Settings, then Phone System, then the Trust Center tab.
  2. Under A2P Messaging (SMS), click Start Registration.
  3. Answer whether your business has an EIN (a federal tax ID). This decides which path you take:
    • You have an EIN: enter your registered business name, EIN, address, and industry.
    • You don't have an EIN (sole proprietor): enter your own name or an unregistered business name, your industry, and a US or Canada mobile phone number that can receive a verification code by text. Don't include "LLC", "Inc", or similar in the name for this path, since it's meant for individuals and unregistered businesses.
  4. Submit the brand registration. The carriers charge a one-time fee of $22.50 for most small shops, plus an ongoing campaign fee of $1.50 to $10.50 a month, passed through at the carrier's price.
  5. Wait for carrier approval. This is a few days for most small businesses; you'll be able to send texts as soon as it's approved.

Use your ready-made opt-in page and answers

Carriers most often reject small businesses for three reasons: there is no website form where customers agree to texts, there is no privacy policy or SMS terms page that covers texting, or the sample messages don't name the business and don't say how to opt out. Ringvance sets up all three for you:

  • A hosted opt-in page with your business name at ringvance.com/t/your-business: a short "Text us" form with an optional, unchecked texting consent box. Messages sent through it land in your Ringvance contacts.
  • Your own privacy policy and SMS terms on that page, written for your business, stating that mobile numbers are never shared for marketing.
  • Ready-to-paste answers for the campaign step: use case, campaign description, sample messages with your business name and STOP language, how customers opt in, and the privacy and terms links.

In your first week we email you a private link to your answers (it works for 30 days). If you need it sooner, or the link expired, reply to any Ringvance email and we'll send a new one. Open your opt-in page once and check that your business name, city and phone are right before you submit.

You don't need to do anything else once you submit the form. Calls, email, Facebook, and Instagram messages all work today without this registration; only sending and receiving texts is on hold until it's approved.

Sample consent language

Carriers also want to see that the people you're texting agreed to receive texts from you. Your hosted opt-in page already shows this wording. If you also collect phone numbers on your own website form, an invoice, or a sign-up sheet, here's a plain-language starting point you can adapt:

Sample text, opt-in consent, for a web form or sign-up sheet

By providing your phone number, you agree to receive text messages from [Your Business Name] about your service request or appointment. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies. Reply STOP to opt out at any time, or HELP for help.

Adapt the business name and the specifics to match what you actually send; don't use wording that promises something you don't do.

If it doesn't work

Registration was rejected? The most common reasons are a business name that includes entity words (LLC, Inc) on the sole proprietor path, details that don't match public records for the EIN path, or a campaign without an opt-in form, privacy policy and SMS terms. Double-check the name and address match exactly, use the answers and links from your private answers page for the campaign, then resubmit.
